Dining in the Alto Ferrarese

book

A collection of ‘poor’ though often quite refined recipes, originating from an area with a great peasant gastronomic tradition: the area between Bologna and Ferrara, around the Panfilia forest, in the municipality of Sant'Agostino, which provides vegetables, mushrooms and even that prized white truffle that has made that area famous.

This is a ‘real’ recipe book, collected by an elderly teacher from Sant'Agostino - now over ninety years old - over the course of her life, born from ‘real’ recipes, from the ancient tradition of those lands so rich in history and culture. Almost 300 gastronomic preparations presented in a sober manner, far from the ‘show gastronomy’ that is fashionable today: in the sign of tradition.

Emma Lodi was born on 20 October 1921 in Sant'Agostino (Fe). She has always lived in the village and taught in primary schools for forty years. In addition to dedicating herself to teaching and to her family, she ran a State Library for several years, also working evenings, where she prepared adult students who needed to take the lower secondary school leaving examination. She collaborated on the drafting of the ‘Quaderni di Sant'Agostino’ (St Augustine's Notebooks) and once she stopped teaching, she devoted herself to her favourite hobby, painting and drawing, activities to which she had decided to devote herself at the age of 19 by enrolling at the Institute of Fine Arts but which she had to give up, first for family reasons and then due to the outbreak of the Second World War.
